In a significant decision, The Delhi High Court on Thursday, October 12, commuted the death sentence of convict Ariz Khan to life imprisonment in the Batla House encounter case. A trial court had in March 2021 convicted Ariz Khan in the case and awarded death penalty. Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed during the encounter in Delhi's Batla House in 2008. While refusing death sentence, the division bench consisting of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Amit Sharma upheld the trial court's decision to convict Ariz Khan. Delhi police raided a house on September 19, 2008 to apprehend "Indian Mujahideen terrorists". The terrorists were allegedly involved in serial blasts that killed 30 people.  Jammu and Kashmir Encounter: Two Terrorist Killed in Gunfight With Security Forces in Kulgam District.
