In a bizarre turn of events in Bareilly's Bhamora area, two thieves attempting to steal buffaloes called the police for rescue after being caught by angry villagers in Gaushganj. The incident began when villagers, alerted by the theft of eight buffaloes from Ramshevak Pal's cowshed around 1 AM, surrounded a nearby sugarcane field where they suspected the thieves were hiding. Fearing for their lives as the villagers armed with sticks closed in, one thief dialed the emergency police number, 112, pleading for help. Police arrived to find the thieves in the grip of an enraged mob and called for additional backup. Despite their efforts, the villagers had already severely beaten two of the thieves. A third thief was caught and met the same fate later that night. The thieves, hailing from a different district, were eventually rescued and taken into custody. Several police officers were injured during the chaotic rescue operation.
