Despite planning the heist and using a grinder, he couldn’t access the vault. Police identified him through CCTV footage after vandalism was reported upon the bank’s reopening.
In a bizarre incident in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, a youth identified as Abdul Samad Khan, alias Shahid Khan, was arrested for attempting to rob a bank to buy expensive gifts for his girlfriend in Canada and two others in India. On October 30, Khan observed the crowd entering and leaving the Punjab National Bank branch and hatched a plan to rob it, believing there would be a substantial amount of money since the bank was closing for several days. On the night of October 31, he attempted to break into the bank using a grinder to cut through the door but was unsuccessful. When the bank reopened on November 4, the manager noticed the vandalism and alerted the police. A thorough review of over 70 CCTV footages led to Khan’s identification and subsequent arrest.
