The Supreme Court today, June 14, refused to stay the demolition of the Pracheen Shiv Mandir by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The Shiv temple is situated near the city's Geeta Colony and the Yamuna Flood Plains. The vacation bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Augustine George Masih rejected the interim relief plea against the demolition of the Shiv temple. It must be noted that on May 29, the Delhi High Court rejected the plea filed by Pracheen Shiv Mandir Avam Akhada Samiti against the DDA's action of demolition. Today, during the commencement of the proceedings, the Court asked, "Where is the proof of Pracheen Temple to begin with?" The top court also said that ancient temples were built with rock and not with cement after asking the petitioner to show the documents supporting the temple's ancient status.
