An American woman was found tied to a tree with an iron chain in the forest of Sonurli in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. Herdsmen discovered her after hearing her screams and alerted the authorities. The police, assisted by locals, transported the woman to a hospital in Oros and subsequently to Goa for further treatment. The woman identified as Lalita Kayi Kumar S, a Tamil Nadu native and originally from the United States, was found weak from starvation and exposure to torrential rain and is currently unable to speak. Police suspect her husband, who is originally from Tamil Nadu, to be responsible for the act.
