Amid the ongoing Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder case, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, August 22 and sought strict punishment for the culprits. In her letter, Mamata Banerjee said that she wishes to bring attention to the regular occurrence of rape cases throughout the country and, in several cases, rapes with murder. Quoting data, Banerjee said that "almost 90 cases of rapes occur daily throughout the country". She said such incidents shake the society's and country's confidence and conscience.
