A speeding car killed an elderly ragpicker, Vijaya Bathwar, after hitting and dragging her for over two kilometers on the outskirts of Rajkot, Gujarat, late Thursday night. Vijaya, a Dalit woman in her sixties, was returning home with her son Dinesh in Kankot village around 11:30 pm when the incident occurred. The white car, coming from the opposite direction, struck Vijaya, leaving her trapped underneath. Despite Dinesh's cries for help, the car sped away towards Kalavad Road. The police registered an FIR at Rajkot Taluka police station. This incident follows a similar hit-and-run case in Mumbai.
