Cases of Sextortion and online blackmailing have been on the rise making victims poorer by lakhs of rupees. Sexual extortion or ‘sextortion’ is a form of blackmail where someone threatens to share a nude or sexual image or video of you unless you give in to their demands. In some cases, the blackmailer may demand some intimate photos or videos or even sexual favours. The perpetrator may also threaten to harm one's friends or relatives using private information obtained illegally from your electronic devices if you fail to heed to their demands. Amid increasing number of such cases Cyber Dost, the cyber safety department under ministry of Home affairs, has shared information on how to deal with cases of sextortion and online blackmail. The safety tips include never posting personal information online, being cautious on dating apps among other things.
