‘Shogun’ made Emmy history as the first Japanese-language series to win Outstanding Drama Series, clinching 18 awards out of 25 nominations.
Shogun, based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel and featuring Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis and Anna Sawai, made history at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. The Japanese-language series, created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, won 18 of its 25 nominations, including major categories such as Best Drama, Best Directing, Best Casting for a Drama, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Prosthetic Makeup and Best Cinematography. It became the first non-English-language series to win an Emmy, following the Korean-language Squid Game’s nomination. The 2024 Emmy Awards is streaming live in India on Lionsgate Play.
