WCC’s Parvathy Thiruvothu and Rima Kallingal ‘Call for Action’ Following Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Prominent Malayalam Film Stars
WCC’s Parvathy Thiruvothu and Rima Kallingal are calling for action and justice following sexual abuse allegations against some of the prominent Malayalam film actors.
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), established in November 2017 in response to a high-profile sexual assault case involving a Malayalam film actress, has been at the forefront of advocating for change. The Kerala government’s formation of the Hema Committee to address issues faced by women in the industry was directly influenced by WCC’s request. Following the release of the Justice Hema Committee Report earlier this month, several prominent male actors from the Malayalam film industry, including Siddique, Ranjith, Mukesh, Baburaj, Jayasurya and a few others, who are also members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), have been accused of sexual abuse. In response, WCC members Parvathy Thiruvothu and Rima Kallingal have reiterated the organisation’s commitment to justice and dignity, calling for decisive action and aiming to spark a ‘new revolution’ in the industry.
