The 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) kicked off with a bang on Wednesday night, lighting up the red carpet at the Busan Cinema Center with over 4,500 attendees. Major stars like Lee Jung-Jae from Squid Game, Song Joong-ki from Descendants of the Sun, and Gang Dong-won from Peninsula added to the glitz and glamour of the evening. This year’s festival features a fresh leadership team, with veteran filmmaker Park Kwang-su taking the helm alongside Ellen YD Kim. The festival also celebrated the talents of Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who was awarded the Asian Filmmaker of the Year. Kurosawa is known for winning the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival in 2020 for his film Wife of a Spy. The star-studded event saw appearances from South Korean celebrities like Ji Chang-wook, TWICE's Dahyun, Park Bo-young, and Kim Min-ju, as well as representatives from other Asian film industries. Held annually in Haeundae-gu, Busan, BIFF is a highly anticipated highlight on the film calendar. Busan International Film Festival 2024: BTS’s RM Documentary ‘Right People, Wrong Place’ to Premiere in October.
