Phyllis Coates Dies at 96, Actress Was Known for Playing First Lois Lane on Television in Adventures of Superman
After Superman, Coates appeared in the Republic serials Jungle Drums of Africa (1952), opposite Clayton Moore of Lone Ranger fame, and in the title role of Panther Girl of the Kongo (1954).
Phyllis Coates, the first actress to portray Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane on television in the Adventures of Superman series, has passed away at the age of 96. In addition to her iconic role in the series, Coates also appeared in films such as I Was a Teenage Frankenstein. She died on October 11 of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, as reported by her daughter, Laura Press, to The Hollywood Reporter Singer Cher’s Mother Georgia Holt Dies At 96.
