Miguel Sapochnik's decision to leave House of the Dragon after the first season definitely came as a shock to fans considering how long he has spent with the franchise. Now more details have emerged behind his departure with reports saying that he stepped down as a showrunner after HBO declined to make his wife a producer on season two. While she was already a credited producer on season one and even played the role of Tayla in a few episodes, this caused Sapochnik to make the tough decision of leaving, and caused to him to fire his agent as well.
