Robert Pattinson's next film, Mickey 17, is generating buzz as the first feature from acclaimed South Korean director Bong Joon Ho since his 2019 Oscar-winning sensation, Parasite. Adapted from Edward Ashton's 2022 sci-fi novel Mickey7, the film stars Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, an "expendable" employee who undergoes constant cloning while on perilous missions to colonise an icy planet. Each time Mickey dies, a new version is created with the memories of his predecessors, leading to numerous dramatic and fatal situations, including drowning, falling into a ravine, and being shot. The cast also features Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. The trailer reveals a notable shift from Mickey7 to Mickey 17, reflecting the numerous times Mickey has been replicated. Bong Joon Ho explained at CinemaCon that the title signifies the increased frequency of Mickey’s deaths. Mickey 17 is set for release on January 31, 2025.
