Just days before the premiere of his new movie The Seed of the Sacred Fig at the Cannes Film Festival, filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof has been sentenced to eight years in prison and flogging by an Iran court. He is also subjected to a fine and confiscation of property, as announced by his lawyer, Babak Paknia. According to him, the court found that Rasoulof's public statements and films "were examples of collusion with the intention of committing a crime against the country's security."
