The much-anticipated release of The Apprentice in India has been delayed. Director Ali Abbasi has expressed dissatisfaction with the cuts imposed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on the biopic of businessman and former US President Donald Trump. The revelation came during the exclusive 'uncut' screening of The Apprentice on October 16 at PVR Juhu, Mumbai, where LatestLY was in attendance. Right after the screening, we reported that the film might be delayed. It has now been confirmed that The Apprentice will not release in India on its intended release date of October 18. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta delivered an insightful introductory speech at the event, praising the standout performances, particularly Jeremy Strong's portrayal of Roy Cohn, which he deemed superior to Sebastian Stan's depiction of Donald Trump. Originally slated for release on October 18, The Apprentice premiered in some markets a week earlier. The narrative of The Apprentice follows a young Donald Trump navigating 1970s New York, where he comes under the influence of the ambitious lawyer Roy Cohn. With Strong as Cohn and Stan as Trump, alongside Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, audiences are eager to see the film in its intended form. The movie is not based on Donald Trump's political career but the beginnings of his real estate career. The Apprentice portrays nudity, same sex encounters and a sexual assault scene, which have been ordered to be cut before release in India. ‘The Apprentice’: Indian Censor Board Cuts Down Nudity, Sexual Assault Scene in Sebastian Stan’s Biopic of Donald Trump.
