Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, he made his debut with the film Upkar in 1967. Over his illustrious career, he graced the screen in approximately 500 films, spanning Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi languages. The actor was best known for his roles in Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Sholay and Sadma.
