Mumbai, November 12: Mohammed Ismail Abdul Khalique, also known as Mufti Ismail, the sitting MLA of Malegaon Central, allegedly suffered a heart attack while campaigning for the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024. After Mufti suffered a heart attack, he was rushed to a hospital in Mumbai for treatment. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) recently fielded its sitting MLA as its candidate from the Malegaon Central assembly constituency for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha polls.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Mohammed Ismail Abdul Khalique complained of chest pain on Monday, November 11, while campaigning for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra. Post this, he was admitted to a hospital in Malegaon. Sources close to the development said that the two-time MLA was moved to Mumbai on Tuesday morning, November 12. Soon after news about Khalique's health spread, other candidates in the Malegaon Central constituency halted their election campaign as a mark of respect. Who Is Mohammed Ismail Abdul Khalique?

An Islamic scholar, Mohammad Ismail Abdul Khalique is a leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and a two-time MLA of Maharashtra. He was elected as an MLA from Malegaon Central in 2009 as a Jan Surajya Shakti candidate and in 2019 as an AIMIM leader. In 2020, during the COVID-19 period, Khalique was arrested for barging into a hospital with his supporters in Malegaon and manhandling the hospital's staff and a doctor for not attending his calls.
