Reliance announced the merger of JioCinema with Disney+ Hotstar due to its better technological infrastructure. The decision will reportedly affect some employees working with Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema. The USD 8.5 billion merger was already announced in February 2024. As per the annual report of RIL, JioCinema had around 225 million monthly active users, and Disney+ Hotstar had around 333 million monthly active users in Q4 2024. JioCinema became a fast-growing OTT platform as of September. With this merger, there will not be any JioCinema in the future, and all the content will be transferred to the Disney+ Hotstar app. The monthly subscription fee for JioCinema starts at INR 29 per month, while it starts with INR 149 Hotstar Plan.
