What Is Vibrio Vulnificus?

Vibrio vulnificus is a type of bacteria. It is a gram-negative, motile, curved rod-shaped bacterium  that is related to Vibrio cholerae, the bacteria that causes cholera. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people get vibriosis by eating raw or undercooked shellfish, particularly oysters. Some people get vibriosis after an open wound comes in contact with coastal waters. Common signs and symptoms of Vibrio infection include watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
