Did ancient history always fascinate you? And did you ever make plans of becoming an emperor? Then you may have to shell out some money before you take over the ancient Greek city of Bargylia. The ancient city in Turkey which now only has ruins but enough archaeological sites is up for sale for the second time since 2015. Now the price has been lowered by about $2 million and is up for sale at $8.3 million. This place has enough of old ruins of a theatre, acropolis, fortification walls, and necropolis which makes it a good archaeological site and it could all be yours to explore if you make the top bid.
Bargylia also has an interesting history. The city is said to have been a Greek mythological hero Bellerophon. He honoured it for his companion Bargylos, who had been killed by a kick from the winged horse, Pegasus. The city has been in existence since 200BC. The King Philip V of Macedon and his fleet took refuge here during the Cretan War. The city which has a lot to its history now lays abandoned. One of the monasteries here is as good as an animal shelter and cows graze here among the ruins.
The Greek City Times reports a local saying, "We hear the sounds of treasure hunters at night, but we cannot do anything out of fear." Not a single excavation, a proper archaeological one has been conducted here, so it is not yet known if there is any treasure underneath. But who knows, if something big occurs? But well, there is a condition of no excavating the property, as it could damage the archaeological status and structure of the place in the name of development. The city has 330 acres of land and is just at a shouting distance from the popular beach resort of Bodrum. Because there are no excavations allowed, there haven't been any buyers, but if you are a dire protector then this may be your chance to own this entire city. Although the Archaeologists are keen the Culture and Tourism Ministry to take a step in the protection of the city for future generations and prevent any accommodation development.
