Doomsday predictions have fascinated people for ages. They have inspired many films and shows. Many doomsday cults also have emerged in the past. Many doomsday dates too have been declared in the past. The latest doomsday questions are—Will Earth end in 14 years? Will 2038 be our last year? Has Earth's doomsday been decided? Doomsday predictions are not new. We have heard from many claiming to be psychics or astrologers who spoke about Earth's end. But here's a scary prediction because it's from NASA. In a recent hypothetical exercise, NASA found a previously undetected asteroid with a 72 percent chance of hitting Earth. This impact could destroy our planet. NASA has warned that our current level of preparedness for the situation is not enough. These observations were from NASA's fifth biennial Planetary Defense Interagency Tabletop Exercise in April. On June 20, NASA released a summary of this exercise. The goal of the exercise was to evaluate how prepared we are for such an event and our response capabilities in the event of an asteroid or comet threat. World To End Today? Has Earth’s Doomsday Date Been Decided?

NASA, in a hypothetical test, observed a scenario where a previously undetected asteroid has a 72 percent chance of hitting Earth in about 14 years. This can potentially cause doomsday in 2038. Which means that this collision could completely destroy Earth. NASA mentions that even though there are no major asteroid threats in the near future, the real worry is about our ability to handle such a threat, even though a lot of warning has been given. Almost 100 representatives from various US government agencies and international partners participated in the exercise. According to NASA, conducting such exercises are essential because they give us an insight into the potential risks, response options, and opportunities for global collaboration in such situations. Doomsday Arriving Soon? NASA however, did point out that with the early observations, the asteroid's composition, size or long-term direction cannot be determined. The simulation also revealed some serious gaps in our preparedness to be able to deal with such a situation. The gaps include uncertain risk tolerance, poor decision-making procedures, the inability to quickly launch space missions, lack of global communication coordination, and no proper crisis management plans for asteroid threats. The simulation provided valuable insights on the potential range of damage that could take place due to this incident.
