Have you always been glad that in flights you get your assigned seat (in most cases) and it doesn't feel like a bus or a train? Well, if the newest invention is put into use, then probably you are going to have even tougher times on planes too. Italian seating manufacturer Aviointeriors has unveiled a new design at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2018 in Hamburg for upright seating. While it gives you enough legroom, there is very little place to sit.
Aviointeriors said that their designs could help more passengers on board as they take less space than a normal seat. You can stretch your leg as much as you want without any extra cost. (But where do I sit, Aviointeriors?)
They had unveiled the product in 2010 but failed to impress anyone, so the company has now come up with an improved version. The US Federal Aviation Administration rejected the older version as it was designed in the style of a horse saddle.
The revised seats have extra padding and poles to connect each row from the ceiling to the cabin floor. According to Aviointeriors, the SkyRider 2.0 "ensures an increased upright passenger position, allowing installation of the seat at a reduced pitch, while maintaining an adequate comfort."
CNN quoted a spokesperson for Aviointeriors as saying, "The design of this seat enables to increase the passenger number by 20% allowing increasing profits for airline companies. Furthermore, Sky Rider 2.0 weighs 50% less than standard economy class seats and the reduced number of components enable minimum maintenance costs."
