Mumbai, January 16: ‘Rage applying’, a new buzzword has taken over social media thanks to Gen Z and some Millennials. The new term was popularised on TikTok, a video-sharing platform, just like its predecessor, quiet quitting. What is known as "rage applying" is a way for individuals, who are feeling underappreciated and underpaid at work, to get back at their bosses and have revenge at the same time.

A while ago, younger workers adopted 'quiet quitting' to let off some steam and seek some revenge in the workplace. The concept gained momentum last year on social media. It, however, does not mean resigning from one's job but more like a philosophy for doing the bare minimum at your job and avoiding unnecessary. Necessity is the mother of invention, they say, so youngsters come up with such innovative and new cultures. A bit controversial, the "Rage Applying", is, however, a way to feel in the zone and empowered for the younger crowd now. So what does rage applying actually mean? What Is Quiet Quitting and It's Meaning? Where Did It Originate From? Know Everything About the Practice That Is Making Employers Worried.

What is Rage Applying?

Rage applying is when an employee feels unappreciated - perhaps from being neglected for a promotion or being paid an unfair wage. This feeling inspires them to send out their resumes to as many companies as they can find in hopes of landing a job with more pay and a better workplace environment. And many TikTokers and social media users claim that this is working for them! In a short time, they are receiving not just one job offer, but several. What Is Moonlighting? How Did it Catch On?

In early December, a Tiktok user, Redweez said in a video that she got a raise of $25,000 through “rage-applying”. The clip went viral and the trend caught on, reported  Fortune. “I got mad at work, and I rage-applied to, like, 15 jobs. And then I got a job that gave me a $25,000 raise, and it’s a great place to work. So keep rage-applying. It’ll happen,” she said in the viral video. Since then, rage-applying has become the buzzword and a new practice for dissatisfied employees.

As the new workplace trend catches on, a lack of growth, work-life balance or just losing interest in the job might be the reason for the rage applying. Low pay, higher inflation, high cost of living, and higher interest rates for the loan are enough to make young employees rage-apply.
