At times when suicide among teenagers is on rising in the country and otherwise, a father in Madhya Pradesh is setting an example for parents. Surendra Kumar Vyas, a resident of Shivaji ward in Bhopal threw a party after his son's Class 10 exam results were declared. Well, it is not his high scores that called for a celebration, he did not even clear the exam. Vyas decided to splurge a little as his son Ashu failed Class 10 board examination on Monday.
And don't you think the celebration was a normal get-together, but, it was a major one. Firecrackers, sweets and shamiana was all part of the celebration held at his house. Friends, family and neighbours came in large numbers to attend the party. Ask the father the reason for the celebration and he will tell you how he wants to motivate his son to study harder and pass next year.
Talking to The Times of India, Vyas said, "This is how I want to motivate my son. After failing in exams, children go into depression and some of them even take the extreme step of ending their lives. I want to tell such children that boards are not the last exams. There is much more to come in life. My son can reappear in the exam again next year."
The son Ashu who was equally in support of the celebrations said, "I appreciate my father. I promise to study more in the next academic session to pass with excellent marks." The happy news comes amid reports of seven students who committed suicide after Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education class 10 and 12 results were declared on Monday. Four other students also attempted suicide as they received poor marks in their exam. You can also do without a party and encourage him or her to score well next time, instead of demotivating.
There have been innumerable incidents of young students ending their lives worrying about the outcome of their exam results. They come under competition from peers and parental force to obtain good scores in the exam. With the belief of failure being the end of academic life or maybe career being embedded into them, it is hard for them to think otherwise. The need to pass exams with great exams has almost become a norm in the country. The tremendous rise of coaching centres and tuition centres speaks of the country's obsession with scoring great marks, what if does not promises quality education.
