Mumbai, August 22: The Bombay High Court could not find a more relevant comparison to make to promote measures for beach safety in the state.  The HC gave an example of iconic American action drama Baywatch, to learn the modern techniques used for beach safety. "Have you [state] not seen Baywatch. Use modern methods to ensure safety of those visiting beaches," said  Justice Kemkar of HC as there was no implementation of its previous order. Maharashtra: 6 Dead After Drowning at a Ratnagiri Beach. 

Baywatch series based on the Los Angeles County lifeguards was one of the most-watch television shows in the world. Advocate Jamshed Mistry, represented the petitioners said that 49 people were reported to have drowned in the state. He also mentioned of Goa government, which uses mobile vehicles to monitor the coastal line. Similar measures are not seen on Maharashtra's coastlines. The bench said, "Why don't you [state] watch Baywatch serial and use modern technology at beaches." Ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, Bombay High Court Tells Maharashtra Govt to Make Beaches Secure. 

The bench also directed the BMC to take the plea ahead with the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority about putting permanent watchtowers during Ganesh Visarjan. Besides, there should be all temporary watchtowers in place by September 10, before the beginning of Ganesh Chaturthi. "The state government must coordinate with local authorities and ensure that all necessary steps are taken to safeguard beaches ahead of the Ganesh festival," the court said. Advocate Sagar Patil for BMC said the fire brigade will have 93 new lifeguards in the next three months, so the total strength will be 129. The State informed the court about the measures that have been taken already. It includes putting up safety nets at Kelve, Mahim and Satpati beaches in Palghar district. Also, the parking place is provided to beaches near Girgaum, Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Aksa, Manori and Marve beaches. There have been several warning signs for tourists visiting the popular beaches. But HC has stressed on using 'modern means' to counter the problems.
