Think of a waste disposal ground and you'd get that unpleasant feeling, the dirty smell and probably question why would someone ask you to think about it? When we say waste disposal our picture would be waste lay stinking not properly controlled but enter Japan's Osaka and you'd feel like entering the building of rubbish incinerator. The Maishima Incineration Plant in Osaka, Japan, is so pretty and impressive that tourists have mistaken it for Disneyland. In fact, the spot has its own TripAdvisor page. It attracts thousands of tourists every year.
The piece of architecture actually treats 900 tonnes of waste from in and around Osaka. It is a very critical place in the city since it manages the waste of 2.6 million residents. Japan has a scarce land surface so only 1% of their waste goes in a landfill. Most of the waste is burnt in rubbish incinerators installed at various places in the country. The Maishima is built like a wonderland and has cost over $730.5 million, well the splendid results show! The eccentric design draws inspiration from the work of Austrian artist and environmental protectionist Friedensreich Hundertwasse. The local Japanese government had requested for a design that included “a fusion of technology, environment and art,” Asahi Shimbun had reported.

Aren't the pictures really beautiful? No wonder people think of it as Disneyland, it has so much colour and feels to it. There are plant creepers going over some walls adds natural beauty to this infrastructure. Japan prides in creating some of the amazing technologically advanced products and infrastructure but this waste disposal designed to look like a tourist spot is just another level. Can you imagine something like this in our country's Swachcha Bharat Abhiyaan? Distant dream!
