Massive rainfall combined with gushing winds plummeted Washington DC, the capital of the United States, into a deluge. A historic single-day rainfall of up to four inches were witnessed in the city, bringing life to a standstill. Incidentally, the brunt of excessive rainfall was faced by Washington on a day when India's financial hub was paralysed for few hours due to the incessent seasonal rains.

A large number of corporations and offices shut down work on Monday due to the heavy rainfall. Schools and colleges in low-lying areas suspended their functioning for the days fearing safety of the pupils. The functioning of the White House was also affected as several parts, including the press area, was hit by water-logging.
