New Delhi, Aug 29: Was Aadhaar card mandatory for girls tying rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi? A post is going viral on social media, claiming that authorities allowed only girls and women who had their Aadhaar card to tie rakhi on PM Modi’s wrist. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, women and children on Sunday across various walks of life tied rakhis to the wrist of PM Narendra Modi.

As part of security protocol, girls and women present at the Prime Minister's Office were asked to show some ID. However, furnishing Aadhaar card was not mandatory for girls and women who tied rakhis to the wrist of PM Modi. The fake claim was based on a pictures shared by official website of PMO India (www.pmindia.gov.in) and the Press Information Bureau (PIB).

In the picture which is shared with the fake post, a girl is seen holding her Aadhaar card while tying rakhi to PM Modi's wrist. The picure is being shared on social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter with a misleading caption. It is obvious that girls and women were asked to carry some identification while coming to the PMO. Some students carried their school I-cards, while women displayed badge of their organisation.

The girl in question is seen with her Aadhaar card, possibly because that’s the ID she chose to display at PMO. "In any high security zone, a person has to carry a photo-ID for entry. The girl in question is also carrying a photo ID proof and in the absence of a purse, held it in her hand," the PMO told TOI while debunking the false claim.
