Virat Kohli's Name And Photo Appears in Gorakhpur Voting List, Shocks Election Officials

In a bizarre incident, Indian skipper Virat Kohli appeared on the voting list for the upcoming Gorakhpur Lok Sabha bypolls. The voter admission which also includes the cricketer's photo was first seen by an election officer who alerted senior officers. Officials who were left puzzled by the voter slip has ordered a probe into it. According to the slip, Kohli's name has been registered under Sahajanwa Assembly segment with the 822 as the voter number.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pankaj Srivastava said an investigation has been launched into the issue. Bypolls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur will be held on March 11 and the counting of votes will be held on March 14. According to the Election Commission, there are 19.49 lakh voters in Gorakhpur parliamentary.

The bypolls in the constituency were necessitated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the seats, respectively, following their election to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

While the investigation is underway, there is no information on whether Kohli is connected to Gorakhpur or not. He earlier lives in Delhi and Gurgaon. Currently, the cricketer lives in Mumbai's Worli with actor wife Anushka Sharma.

This is not the first time names of celebrities appeared in Indian government documents surprising everyone.
