A man on fire running for his life inside a Dubai mall had gone viral recently. The video showed a man engulfed in fire running around while security staff and other people running helter-skelter. The video that looks disturbing was doing rounds on social media recently, however, it seems that the clip isn't real. The video was circulated on WhatsApp with a Malayalam message that read: "an incident that just happened in Dubai". It was widely shared on other social networking sites also.

In the video shrieks of people can be heard and the staff look for a fire extinguisher. However, according to Gulf News, Dubai Police has confirmed that the incident happens in the country. Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police said, "The video wasn't in The Dubai Mall or in any mall in the emirate. There is a police post in the mall and the officers didn’t receive any alert about such an incident."

He added saying, "Residents should always verify the news first before re-sending it to friends and spreading them on social media." Meanwhile, some forwards stated that the fire was caused by a phone explosion.

Meanwhile, a report by BOOM stated that Dubai Police also took to Twitter about the rumours saying the incident did not occur there. A Morocco World News report said that man was a 'would-be shoplifter' who set himself on fire at the Agadir supermarket. The 30-year-old committed the act as the security personnel foiled his attempt to steal something and would levy a huge fine on him.
