London, June 10: Vijay Mallya, facing extradition proceedings in the United Kingdom, was booed with 'chor, chor' (thief, thief) chants as he left after India vs Australia World Cup 2019 match at The Oval cricket ground in London. Reacting to people who gathered around him and chanted 'chor, chor', Vijay Mallya said he just wants to make sure his mother doesn't get hurt. A video of the crowd chanting 'chor, chor' to boo Mallya is being shared on social media.

"I am making sure my mother doesn't get hurt," Mallya says as he comes out from the stadium, along with his mother, Lalitha. Earlier in the day, Mallya was seen attending India's match against Australia at The Oval and evaded questions on his extradition case. "I am here to watch the game," he told news agency ANI. The 63-year-old embattled liquor baron added that "preparations are underway for the next hearing scheduled in July".
