Video of St Lawrence School Vashi Principal Denying Admission to a Single Mom’s Kid Goes Viral; Management Says ‘We Do Not Discriminate’

In the latest case of admission denial, Vashi, New Mumbai's St. Lawrence School has found itself in a pickle after denying a standard 2 student admission on the basis of having a single parent. A video of the single mother confronting the school principal has gone viral and on Facebook is garnering flak from people for refusing admission to a child for having a single parent. As per reports, the woman approached the school for admission of her kid but as soon as she disclosed that the child is being raised by a single mother, the school denied saying they do not have vacancies. She planned to confront the principle and record the whole scene on her phone on the school premises. The video holds the records of the principal saying that they do not admit students having single parents because they cannot "handle" them. However, when the woman asked them if they would have the same reaction to the students whose parents separate after the child has received admission to which they said that would be unfortunate and they wouldn't cancel the admission. However, as per reports by TOI who talked to the spokesperson of the school after the principal refused to talk, they "do not discriminate in admitting students under any criteria." They further said to the esteemed portal, "Nor do we have any such policy for parents. In the given case, as the video has just come to our attention, we are investigating the issue and will take appropriate action. We will look into the matter and follow due process."
