Once the bottle is dropped into the machine, it is crushed and released as fine pieces of plastic.
Ban of plastic especially single-use plastic has become the motto of our country and should be for the entire world. Plastic pollution is destroying the nature and is one of the prime contributors to environmental pollution. With World Environment Day recently celebrated on June 5, India being the host country this year led the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ for the entire world. Staying true to this, Vadodara railway station has installed bottle crushers to minimise plastic waste at the station. And a bonus for the users who contribute in banning the use of plastic.
As per ANI reports, Vadodara station today installed the plastic bottle crushers and have announced that passengers who’ll enter their mobile number on the machine after dropping a bottle into it will get a cashback of Rs.5 in their Paytm wallet.
On World Environment Day, Bengaluru division of South Western Railway (SWR) also installed bottle crushers at KSR city, Yeshwantpur, Contonment and Krishnarajapuram stations to minimise the plastic water bottles. Divisional railway manager (Bengaluru railway division) R S Saxena who inaugurated the facility on World Environment Day, said, “We have tied up with a private firm to install automatic noiseless bottle crushing machines in major railway stations of Bengaluru division. We will also increase the number of these machines at the stations based on the response from passengers.” He further added, “This will also ensure that plastic bottles are not dumped on railway tracks of stations premises. It is also an eco-friendly option to dispose of plastic bottles.”
Each of these machines costs around Rs. 4.5 lakh. Once the bottle is dropped into the machine, it is crushed and released as fine pieces of plastic. The bottle crushers were recently introduced in SWR’s Mysuru division and now Vadodara railway station. It is also widely used in railway stations of Ahmedabad, Pune and Mumbai.
