In an unfortunate event, a laptop which was kept on charge on a bed exploded in the user's face causing him serious burns. Nishant Kedia from Ranchi was rushed to a local hospital where he spent 11 days. After being on life support for a long time, he is slowly getting back to life. The incident happened in December 2017 when Kedia was in the bedroom working on his laptop. Feeling sleepy, he left on the bed near him and dozed off. The laptop which was on charge blasted around midnight and gutting everything in the room.
Kedia's wife came running to the room on hearing the explosion but could not open the door due to the air pressure created by the fire. Neighbours rushed in and helped douse the flames. After spending more than a week in a Ranchi hospital, he was brought to Mumbai's Bhatia Hospital for further treatment. He went through several physiotherapy and reconstructive surgery through the course of time at the hospital.
The Times of India quoted Dr Shailesh Ranade, plastic surgeon and coordinator of the burns unit at Bhatia Hospital as saying, "He had 50% full thickness burns and came to us with severe septicemia. His entire face, upper limbs, back and legs were badly burnt. The burns were so deep that they had completely destroyed parts of his ears, nose, and exposed bones on his elbows. He also had serious respiratory burns and required prolonged intensive care with ventilator support."
Pradeep, Kedia's cousin with whom he runs a cement business, said, "The room was gutted. Not a single piece of furniture or appliance was spared. Kedia had the presence of mind to rush under the shower. Or else his burns would have been worse."
After going through treatment and battling depression for months, he flew to hometown. Before boarding the flight, he said, "It's a miracle that I have survived. I had never thought I would live to see this day. I'm looking forward to see my children." He was received at the Ranchi airport by over 100 people including friends and family.
