UP Police’s Tinder Reference on Consent Gets a Thumbs Up on Social Media

The Twitter pages of state and city police are definitely competing to garner maximum attention. This time it is the Uttar Pradesh police's Twitter page who have impressed social media users. The state police have touched upon an important topic has led to discussions and talks on social media and otherwise in the recent past. The importance of consent has been among least discussed topics, however, it has finally made way into mainstream topics of talks, fortunately. Using a clip from a Tinder India's ad, the UP police has highlighted how 'A No Means No'.
The video footage clearly gives the message that it's a match only when two people swipe right. Stating that the consent has to be mutual, UP police tweeted saying, "Even an app understands the importance of consent, why can't you?" The tweet received a lot of positive responses from internet users lauding the social media team for initiating conversation on the topic.

The topic of consent has also kickstarted debates on if sex-education should be a part of children's school syllabus or not. The social media handles of police have been issuing various road safety advisories, traffic rules, the importance of civic responsibilities among many more. Earlier this year, Mumbai Police had issued a similar warning saying, "Respect consent. Else face our dissent". Bengaluru city police, Nagpur and Nashik police, Kolkata police have all been using their social media presence to spread awareness on various things. They often create memes and use references from recently popular TV shows or Netflix series to grab the attention of social media users.
