Getting a leave for a police officer is not very easy. Cops are constantly on the run and barely get to rest. In a bid to get a leave, a police constable in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district had a rather unusual reason to give. Som Singh, a constable asked for a leave of 30 days to 'expand his family.' If that is not surprising enough, then well, he got it, rather he got more than he asked for.

In the leave requisition form, Singh wrote: "parivaar badhane liye" (to expand family). A reason like that was bound to attract eyeballs and it started being discussed even on social media. Singh then said that it was a fake reason, he actually wanted a leave for the construction of his house. The matter came to the knowledge of the senior police officials and realised it could become a laughing stock on the police department. Singh was then made to fill in another form in which he gave the 'construction of the house' as a reason. The inspector had considered the cop's plea and gave him a 45-day leave, starting June 23.

This is not the first such incident in UP. A few days ago a cop posted in Lucknow had requested a leave by giving a similar reason. The police officer wrote a letter to his boss stating his wife might desert him if he did not spend enough time with her. The reason may sound unreasonable and laughable but it puts a highlight on the condition of the police force who barely get any time for their families, which is affecting their family in general. While Som Singh was lucky to get a month and half holiday, not every official from the police department may be that fortunate.
