Uber Eats Backs Zomato For Standing Up Against Bigoted Customer Who Refused Food Delivery From 'Non-Hindu'

New Delhi, July 31: Food delivery app Zomato was backed by its competitor Uber Eats on social media after it struck back against a bigoted customer who refused delivery from a "non-Hindu". In a one-liner on Twitter, the page of Uber Eats India said it backs the decision taken by Zomato to not to discriminate among its delivery boys on the basis of religion.

"Just cancelled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non hindu rider for my food they said they can't change rider and can't refund on cancellation I said you can't force me to take a delivery I don't want don't refund just cancel," the person identified as Amit Shukla said.

Zomato later issued a detailed statement, in which it reiterated that it indeed considers food as a religion, while also respecting the sentiments of all religions. For this reason, the service provider said, it tags hotel which offer jain thali, pure vegetarian food and those which serve halal meat.
