New Delhi, April 17: Social media giant Twitter on Tuesday went down briefly due to a technical snag. The micro-blogging site failed to load, with users being redirected to a default landing page.

"Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing — we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon," said the message displayed on twitter's homepage while th technical snag remained.

Twitterati were irked by the social networking site going down, with some marking their complaint on rival Facebook.

While Facebook has nearly 2 billion monthly users, Twitter has 330 million.

Twitter's market share, however, has been dwindling, which experts attribute to the lack of innovation adopted by the social media developers. The drab look along with limited features makes Twitter an unattractive place, unless the user wants to consume one the maximum grapevine linked to his/her area of interest, claim experts.

In November 2017, Twitter introduced a major update for its users, increasing the size of tweets from 140 to  280 characters.

Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and his team. The micro-blogging site gained instant popularity with its monthly users peaking to as high as 150 million within the next five years.
