A recent footage emerged of Microsoft founder Bill Gates talking about Trump’s alleged confusion about the difference between HPV and HIV. At Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation event, Gates said that he had to explain to Trump on two separate occasions that HIV and HPV are not the same. Responding to the footage, The Free Speech Coalition – top trade association for the adult entertainment industry – mocked President Trump in an open letter sent to the White House on Friday to teach President Donald Trump a thing or two adult sexual health.

“Dear Mr. President…We understand that science is hard, and certainly a challenging concept for people who do not believe in facts,” read the letter. “However, your willingness to acknowledge your own ignorance is the first step in the learning process – so please be proud of your progress! There is no such thing as a silly question when it is coming from someone with direct access to nearly half the world’s nuclear arsenal.”

An Open Letter by The Free Speech Coalition

The letter spanned over two-and-a half pages and gave a detailed explanation on the differences between HPV, an infection that can cause genital warts and lead to cervical cancer and HIV, a condition that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS. The group explained that although HPV and HIV are both spread by sexual activity, the acronyms ‘share two out if three letters’, but ‘that’s pretty much where the similarities end.’

Bill Gates During the Interview

Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates, addressing the crowd at MSNBC’s All in with Chris Hayes, said, “Both times he wanted to know if there was a difference between HIV and HPV, so I was able to explain that those are rarely confused with each other.”

The group also criticised Trump for dismantling the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS last year. The letter read, “The Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS also used to exist, before you dismantled it after six people resigned in protest (don’t worry, we get it – sometimes when things don’t go your way, you have to destroy a program that affects the lives of a million people just to prove a point. Power is cool like that. It probably could have helped you out with understanding this whole ‘HIV vs HPV’ thing though.)

The group also urged president to ask the Republican Part to ‘stop referring to porn as a public health crisis’ and highlighted on the fact that ‘no one has ever died from porn.’ The president was also encouraged to take steps to reduce deaths related to HIV and HPV, and to support the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act, a bill that would support comprehensive sexual health education. “You have the power, and now the information, to make these things better,” concluded the letter.
