The Swachh Bharat Mission, a nation-wide campaign has seen several good initiatives undertaken to maintain cleanliness throughout the country. Government has built toilets in several remote villages as a part of the initiative. But recent pictures from the walls of government toilets in Ichhawari village of Bulandshahr have left people fuming. Locals of the area launched an angry protest against the district administration following these images. Some of these pictures were also shared on social media and they quickly went viral. As per reports in TOI, the district administration suspended rural development officer Santosh Kumar. A villager named Jagdish Kumar was quoted in the same report, "This is a criminal act on the part of government officials who plastered Gandhiji’s image on a toilet wall. This kind of ill-treatment meted out to the ‘Father of the Nation’ cannot be tolerated at any cost. We want an inquiry into the matter and immediate termination of the officials involved." As per the details given by District Panchayti Raj Officer Amarjeet Singh about 508 toilets were built in the Ichhawali village recently. Out of these, 13 were built using local material, which also included these tiles with Gandhi's picture and the Ashoka pillar. He further mentioned that these tiles have been removed and the rural development officer was also immediately suspended.
