Lion Air flight JT610 crashed on Monday morning killing 189 passengers including Indian Captain Bhavye Suneja and co-pilot Harvino. The story grabbed headlines in the Indian media and made it to the front pages of the newspaper today. However, The Times of India is being slammed for their coverage of the incident. Their headline reads, "189 feared dead as plane flown by Indian crashes into Java Sea". People on social media lashed out at the leading daily for framing the headline in a manner that implies that the plane crashed due to the Indian pilot's mistake.

Sharing a picture of the newspaper, Twitter user Antevasin wrote, "So, the plane crashed into the sea because it’s flown by an Indian pilot? Idiocy at its best." Another tweet reads, "Shame! Comedian Atul Khatri also commented on the coverage of the crash by TOI. He took to Twitter saying, "Hello @timesofindia we all know the plane was flown by an Indian but somehow there is a better way for you to phrase your headlines. It implies that an Indian was responsible for the crash."

Captain Suneja who was a resident of Delhi's Mayur Vihar joined the airline as the pilot in March 2011. He did his schooling from Ahlcon Public School in 2005 and has been a trainee pilot for the Boeing 737NG. The passenger plane which was travelling from Soekarno-Hatta (Tangerang) to Pangkalpinang crashed near Kerawang after taking off from Jakarta Soekarno Hatta International Airport when it crashed.
