It's Valentine's Day and people celebrating simply can't keep calm. Every year Valentine's Day is observed on February 14 honouring Saint Valentine who is eternally considered a symbol of pure love. Over the years, the day has evolved as a day of different festivities and even those who are single celebrate the day with much enthusiasm. In India, the day also marks another celebration wherein parents are worshipped. Matru Pitru Pujan Divas or Parents' Worship Day is also observed on February 14. People have taken to Twitter with the hashtag #HappyParentsWorshipDay thanking parents for everything.

The idea to observe Parents' Worship Day instead of Valentine's Day was started by spiritual leader Asaram Bapu, who is currently serving a jail term for rape and murder charges. And surprisingly, some people on Twitter are excited to ring in this day. So amidst all the Valentine Day 2019 wishes, some are exchanging Matru Pitru Diwas wishes on social media. Asaram Organisation Gets Praise From Gujarat Education Minister For Celebrating Matru Pitru Divas on February 14.

Asaram Bapu started this tradition in the year 2007. The first Parents' Worship Day or Matru Pitru Poojan Diwas was done at Sant Shri Asharamji Gurukul, Ahmedabad. Youth gathered with their parents to mark this day. In the year 2015, it was declared as an official celebration by the state-led government Bhartiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh. It is a holy initiative by Asaram Bapu which encourages students to worship their parents, as a method to invoke more respect towards one's parents. Dedicated followers of Asaram Bapu are thus eagerly waiting to celebrate Matru Pitru Diwas tomorrow. There is no denying that fact one must respect their parents and that too at all times. But going all out just to oppose the idea of celebrating Valentine's Day seems a bit too far-fetched.
