TikTok’s ‘Outlet Challenge’ Sparks Fire! Experts Warn Parents to Keep Teens Away From the Ill-Advised Viral Trend

It seems like; we have got this year and decade’s its very first bizarre challenge that could cause harm among participants. The viral ‘outlet challenge’ that is surfacing on TikTok is bringing new meaning to the warning, ‘don’t try this at home.’ So, the challenge involves partially inserting a cell phone charger into an outlet and then sliding a penny down the wall onto the plug’s exposed points. The result could spark the fire and damage the electrical system. According to media reports, the Holden Fire Department in Massachusetts has received two instances of teens trying to recreate the stunt that caused the fire. As per NBC, two students were caught while attempting the challenge twice in a matter of minutes in a classroom at Plymouth North High School, Massachusetts. Firefighters rushed to the spot to investigate whether the burned outlet posed a threat to students. “We would like parents to be aware of the new ‘challenge.’ The ‘challenge’ seen on the popular video app, TikTok, involves using the plug part of a phone charger, partially inserting it into the wall outlet, and then sliding a penny down the wall onto the exposed prongs. The result is sparks, electrical system damage, and in some cases fire,” the Holden Fire Department wrote on Facebook. “These videos are a concern and similar to past viral videos that encourage unsafe behaviour,” the officials added further.
