A prom night is a special and memorable event for any student. But students of Christopher Columbus High School, a private Catholic school for boys made sure the students will remember the night forever. The school went too literal for its prom night theme 'Welcome to the Jungle,' by getting in a live caged tiger in the premises. Not just a tiger, the school also got in other animals like a lemur, two macaws, and a fox at the event. The video of the caged tiger at the vent surfaced online and since then the school has received some major backlash. The tiger was obviously not very pleased to be present at such a place for amusement. Parents and animal enthusiasts both have expressed concerns about the school's bizarre decision.

Mari-Cris Castellanos, whose brother attends the school expressed the displeasure on her Facebook account, "This poor tiger was used as an EXOTIC amusement for the mindless teenagers who were present. It is not the student [sic] fault to be so naive BUT it’s the CCHS STAFF who arranged this event, there for they are responsible for this tigers misery." The school, however, refuted the parent's claim. "The tiger, which was displayed for a few minutes in a cage, was never harmed or in danger, was not forced to perform, was always accompanied by his handlers, and for the great majority of the time, was laying down in a relaxed state, facing away from the audience," a school spokesperson said.

The school did face some backlash but they did not find anything wrong with their idea of including animals in the celebratory night. The school gave out a statement which said the tiger, two macaws and an African fennec fox were on display and that two Miami-Dade police officers were present the entire time. The high school's principal too gave a statement that they would be careful about their future events. “Moving forward, we will evaluate our current policies and procedures in the planning and management of school events, including the impact these have on others. We all have learned a great deal from this experience.” Well, it is highly bizarre of the school to get in animals and in a way promoting a message that animals are for the amusement of children.
