Park rangers in Australia were left shocked on discovering a python snake with three eyes recently. They found the snake on the Arnhem Highway in the Northern Territory Town of Humpty Doo. The malformed snake was found in the Australian Outback. While all its other features were like a regular python, on its head was the most shocking additional third eye. It was a fully functioning eye. The Rangers named this python as Monty. Python Covered With More Than 500 Ticks Rescued From Swimming Pool in Australia, View Pictures.
Monty, however, did not survive too long and died last week. Because of its deformities, it struggled to feed. The strange reptile was about 3 months and 40 cms long. The wildlife experts found the snake in the month of March. They were taking care of it, but the deformities made it difficult for him to survive. Monty was a carpet python species which are found all over Australia. These are non-venomous species that feast on small mammals. NT Park and Wildlife official Ray Chatto informed about the snake's death in the last week. He told NT News, "'It’s remarkable it was able to survive so long in the wild with it’s deformity and he was struggling to feed before he died last week." The Rangers also took an X-ray of the snake to find out more about the third eye. The findings revealed that the third eye developed at a very early stage of the embryonic stage of development. Mr Chatto also mentioned, "It is extremely unlikely that this is from environmental factors and is almost certainly a natural occurrence as malformed reptiles are relatively common."
