A school in Bhopal is gaining the attention from everywhere for training ambidextrous students. Almost 200 students here can write just as swiftly with both their right and left hands, a quality which is considered too rare among individuals. But in Veena Vandini School in Budhela village of Madhya Pradesh, almost all students master ambidexterity! And the students are so used to it that they possess a speed to complete their exam papers in half the time.
The school was set up by former soldier BP Sharma, who read about first Indian President Rajendra Prasad's ability to be ambidextrous. He wanted to try it out and ended up setting a school in 1999 to train students to use both their hands simultaneously. The training for the students started from Class I and by the time they reached Class III, they were very comfortable in using both their hands.
How are the students trained?
At first, the students are taught to use the pen with one hand and after a month, they are asked to use the second hand. In a class of 45 minutes, a student is made to practice writing with both the hands for at least 15 minutes. A skill like this not only ensures the students use both the hands well but also the students can learn more than one language. It helps them in building their concentration and they learn same words in different languages as well. The students here are trained daily in Yoga which helps them build their concentration better.
The students here are true geniuses as they master in not only English but also in Hindu, Urdu, Sanskrit, Arabic and Roman! With an ambidextrous ability to master so many languages, swiftly, these kids might actually grow up to be smarter than others. This quality and dedication shown by both the teacher and students are so famous that South Korean researchers had visited them to study them. It is said that only 1% percent of the people are actually ambidextrous but in this rural school, students practice it like artistry.
