Travel-bug is difficult to resist. We all dream of covering and exploring the world one day. while we are earning towards it, there are several people who quit their jobs and make ends meet to fuel their traveling dreams. While some are successful at their execution, others have to face misery. A couple from Colorado is, unfortunately, experiencing the later. Tanner Broadwell, 26, and Nikki Walsh, 24 sold out all their worldly possessions for their plan to sail around the world. They set out as planned from Tarpon Springs, but within two days into their voyage their boat sunk off the coast of Florida.
The couple had spent a lot of their time in research and also saving for getting a sailboat. They spent nearly $10,000 to buy and upgrade the 49-year-old boat. They sailed it from Alabama to Florida and learned sailing for their future trip. Both of them were in the marketing field and met at work. They wanted to escape their modern lifestyle and were tired “of doing things to make people do the things they don’t want to do,” as quoted in a newspaper. They then started working towards their goal of sailing around the world which included giving up a lot of their luxuries. They saved and in April 2017, they sold off everything to buy 1969 boat Lagniappe.
They learned some sailing from Tanner’s father and were ready to sail. But while sailing the bottom of their boat struck an object underwater and there was water within their boat. A rescue ship reached them an hour later, but they had to jump off to escape. All Walsh managed to take was social security cards, a little cash, her phone, and Broadwell’s ID along with their pug Remy who remains unhurt. But all the other belongings have floated away. Although the boat remains in the water, the couple would have to shell out much larger amount to take it out and restore it again.
While talking to The Tampa Bay Times Broadwell said, “I sold everything I had to do this. I lost everything in a matter of 20 minutes.” They now have only $90. Their dreams have sunk but they haven’t lost any hopes. The couple is looking at a funding page and will have to relook for jobs to sustain. Their dreams might have gone in the waters this time, but they are looking to sail down the same in few years again. “We can’t just give up on our dreams,” Ms. Walsh said to the newspaper.
