The Indian society is clearly struggling on its way to improvment as it constantly faces the speed breakers of sexism, casteism and most of all the gender inequality that prevails. All these three are being fought for and spoken against at the same time. A girl's marriage is still a major concern among her parents and that's a huge responsibility to be 'get done' with. And to help you out find your perfect prospective bride/groom, the matrimonial platforms come to play.
Now if those were no less, an exclusive meet for the ultra-rich is scheduled to happen in Bengaluru in August. While the boys (read as grooms) will be successful entrepreneurs, youngsters graduated from top varsities, recognized achievers, the girls (read as brides) just need to be beautiful. Well, there goes all your fight for equality and empowerment!
The Grand National Young Achievers Matrimony Meet is scheduled for August 12 at The Leela Palace in Bengaluru. The advertisement for this bride-groom meet was printed on a prominent newspaper The Hindu. The invitation is exclusively for those belonging to ultra-rich families, celebrity of VVIP families. So well, looks wise, this is going to be a glamorous meeting for finding your mates.
Take a look at the print ad of the Young Achievers Matrimony Meet printed in the newspaper:

While the men here will be very 'recognized' achievers, all a girl has to be is beautiful. Because, of course, your pictures have to look extraordinarily glamourous on Facebook, that calls for your 'achievement.' This exclusively for the rich and fancy meet costs Rs 10,000 if you are a young achiever and with your family Rs 25,000. That's it! You get a complimentary drink, vegetarian lunch and high tea worth that amount. But again when you are ultra-rich, would you mind? You will have to send across your profile and photos via WhatsApp to register. Well, of course, what if you are not beautiful enough to suit in a VVIP family striding here with their achiever son?
This advertisement is regressive on many levels. If at all an event like this is being conducted then passing off the message through a print advertisement on a daily, hoping the rich and wealthy would flock desperately for seeing a prospective mate is an example of marketing class discrimination versus actual talent.
It is 2018 and there are protests and discussions held for equality, across gender and castes. But this ad or rather such events are a letdown for the society as a whole. It not only fails to market the event but also underrates the achievements of the many girls who are striving hard to make a career and settle well. Not sure if the rich are already registering for this meeting your mate thing after seeing such distinct prejudices plastered on it.
