Thai Airways Charges Passenger for Changing his Long Name on Ticket, Apologises and Reimburses the Fee Later
The discrepancy in the name created a problem at the check-in counter. The airline employee charged him to make the change of names on the website.
A Thai Airways passenger had to face an unpleasant experience because of the fault of the airlines. He had to pay 3000 baht ( 94 USD) for having a long name! It so happened that the names of the person's family did not match the ones on his passport. But it was not the passenger's error but of Thai Airlines. The man's surname did not fit in the name field, so it was cut off on the website. This error cost him extra money but the airline responded and reimbursed him the amount.
The discrepancy in the name created a problem at the check-in counter. The airline employee charged him to make the change of names on the website. The consumer obviously unhappy posted his grievance on an online forum. In that, he mentioned that although he was a part of the airline's loyalty program, it was not enough to confirm his identity. He filed a complaint against them online. The airlines, however, responded to his case and have apologised. The airlines also confirmed that they would ensure such a case does not happen in future. "We apologise for the inconvenience since the internet booking system allows up to 25 characters each for the first name and family name when booking a ticket," Wiwat Piyawiroj, Thai Airways acting executive vice-president, said on the company's Facebook page.
Who would have thought having a long name can make you shell out extra money? Although the complaint is now addressed, it is important to take care of all the necessary formalities especially when you are travelling by airways.
